About two weeks ago, I found my first ever computer in the attic of my parents' house: A Shuttle SK41G.
Back in 2002, when it was released, it was advertised as "The World's First AMD Small Form Factor with AGP".
My SK41G has an AMD Athlon XP 2400+, an ATI radeon 9600pro 128 MiB GPU and 512 MiB of DDR RAM.
The Shuttle did not post when I tried to turn it on, so I thought this could be an interesting retro computer project to look at.
After taking a closer look at the machine I guessed that the CPU might be the issue, so I ordered a "new" Athlon XP 2400+ and socketed it on the Socket A Mainboard. I was right! After that, I was able to boot into the BIOS. I was also able to boot TinyCore Linux from a Ventoy USB-Drive.

The next thing to try was installing Windows XP on the Shuttle.
Looks like I either have an issue with the HDD or my Windows XP ISO is broken. I suppose it is the latter, because the old Windows XP installation on the HDD can boot up just fine. After loading the components of the XP installer, I get the following error:
"Technical information: *** STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF88F0524, 0xC0000034, 0xC00000000, 0xC00000000)"
So I went to try another OS: Ubuntu Mate 18.04.5 32 bit. Every time I try to boot it, I get a kernel panic.

Turns out my OS images were the problem. I got myself an official Windows XP disk and a Ubuntu 15.04 LTS 32 bit DVD. Both booted and installed just fine, without any issues.
Next to the Shuttle, I also found the original drivers CD.
